Next, there is USkin.  The key ingredients in  USkin’s powerful  serum are vitamin C and hyaluronic Acid.  Hyaluronic has been called the ‘fountain of youth’ and is present in our skin tissues but with age diminishes which is why hyaluronic acid  as a supplement is so beneficial to ageing skin.

One of the key properties of hyaluronic acid is its ability to retain moisture, making the skin looks and feels softer, smoother, and plumper.  Because it fills out the skin, wrinkles are much less noticeable.  If you have ever looked into Botox or fillers, you will have noticed that hyaluronic fillers are used as a solution to wrinkles on the areas of mouth, marionette lines, lips and cheeks.

At less than £13.00 this uSkin anti ageing serum offers a great way to naturally rejuvenate your skin.

Apply a rich moisturiser with SPF of 15 or higher every morning.

Take daily vitamin C supplements. 1000mg effervescent tablets dissolved in water once a day. Vitamin C is needed for the formation of collagen. Additionally, studies have shown that vitamin C may help prevent and treat ultraviolet (UV)-induced photo-damage.

Treating hair loss

Updated 12th September 2016

Hair loss can be caused by a number of reasons, although the most common is natural hair loss which occurs through ageing. Turning back the clock or a receding hairline is possible and the best news is, it need not cost a fortune.

The most common treatment for hair loss is Minoxidil which can be found in strengths 2% or 5%. The stronger solution being the most effective. Minoxidil was initially created as an anti-hypertensive vasodilator medication which is a medicine that widens the blood vessels to treat high blood pressure. However, it turned out that the drug in its oral form had an interesting side effect which was hair growth! Out of this side effect a topical solution of Minoxidil was created to treat hair loss and baldness. Today Minoxidil can be brought in high-street pharmacies, Superdrug and Boots as well as online.

Buy the cheapest option because Minoxidil 5% is the same whether you opt for the more expensive Rogaine branded products or a generic (cheaper) form. Use twice a day as directed and you will see a dramatic slow down of hair-loss as well as new hair growth.

Because the actual hair growth cycle consists of three distinct stages – Anagen, Catagen and Telogen, you will need to allow at least 3 months before you see the benefits. Having said that, it does depend from person to person and I have heard users notice new hair starting to grow along their fore-line after only 4 weeks. Once you start to see an improvement, don’t stop using the solution. Minoxidil does work, but only for as long as you continue to use it. Once you stop, your hair will revert back to how it was before.

Exactly how Minoxidil promotes hair growth is not fully understood but it is thought that because of its effect of widening blood vessels, that it allows an increase of oxygen, blood and nutrients to the hair follicle which results in thicker and new hair in the Anagen phase which is the active growth phase of hair follicles.

Important Minoxidil is very toxic to cats, so if you have a cat, wash your hands well after using the solution and never allow it to contact your cat. The drug causes heart failure in cats which will result in their death over a few days. Why not check out the benefits and great price of Minoxidil right here.

Before starting any treatment yourself, do visit your doctor because there can be underlying causes for hair loss such as hormonal changes, unbalanced thyroid hormones Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hair to fall out. In most cases, the hair will grow back once the thyroid disorder is treated.

Top 20 selling perfumes

Updated 12th September 2016

I love wearing perfume and I have to say that I don’t feel dressed if I leave home without a splash of my favorite perfume after a shower.

My personal favourites are Hermes-Eau des Merveilles. This perfume lasts all day and has a very original fragrance. Jennifer Lopez- Glow. Again this is very long lasting and has a lovely fresh fragrance which resembles freshly laundered linen! CK1- This is a classic unisex perfume launched in 1994 and remains a firm favourite with its unique fragrance.

These days, thank goodness, perfume is not used just to cover up bad smells. We wear perfume because it has become an accessory, a way to express ourselves.

Looking back at the history of perfume, the word comes from the Latin ”Per Fumus”, which literally means through smoke. Perfumes or sweet-smelling compounds were originally used to cover up bad smells. The art of creating perfumes dates back to the ancient world when the Egyptians developed perfume using oils which were extracted from the plants and trees which flourished alongside the river Nile. The famous Egyptian scents were exported to Rome where they were further developed by the Romans. After the success of the Egyptian perfumeries, scents were developed throughout the world and in East Asia these sweet-smelling compounds were incense based.

Here is a list of the top 20 selling perfumes. It’s interesting to see how many timeless classics never lose their appeal.

What does Eau De Toilette, Eau De Parfum mean?
These refer to the actual strength of the fragrance, or more to the point, how much high-grade alcohol and/or water has been added to the fragrance oils. Parfum (This is the most concentrated form that you can buy) and this has 15-25% perfume oil dissolved in alcohol. Any mixture with a lower proportion of oil to alcohol is an eau (water).

Eau Fraiche (Usually 3% or less perfume oil)
Eau de Cologne (2 – 5% of perfume oil)
Eau de Toilette (4 – 10% of perfume oil)
Eau de Parfum (8 – 15% of perfume oil)
Soie de Parfum (15 – 18% of perfume oil)
PARFUM or Perfume (15-30% of perfume oil)

I do love the Niki Minaj perfume bottle. I tried this perfume the other day and it smells delicious Like a bowl of fizzy mouth-watering fruit sweets. Definitely on my Christmas list.

Hand cream and nail strengthener all in one!

Is it too good to be true. Can an all in one Intensive hand cream and nail strengthener really work?

I originally popped into my local Superdrug store the other week to get a handbag size tube of hand cream as well as a pot of nail hardener. I headed in the direction of the hand cream counter first when I came across a product that I had not seen before – Vaseline hand and nail lotion. With claims to strengthen nails up to 50% and at half price on that particular day, it definitely worked out much cheaper than buying hand cream and a separate nail hardener so I decided to give it a try.

Having only used the product on a daily basis for little over a week I can’t comment on how well it works for strengthening nails, but as a hand cream it is very effective in hydrating and has a lovely smell.

As an intensive hand cream I give this product 5/5 and I will update this post when I have tested the nail strengthener part.

If you want to read more reviews on the Vaseline hand and nail lotion, I suggest having a look at the Superdrug website

Update. 28th Dec 2013
After using this hand and nail lotion since September I give this product a 5/5 for both its hand cream and nail strengthening properties. My nails are definitely stronger and I can’t remember the last time that one of them broke. For the first time in years I have managed to grow my nails to a decent length and I now enjoy showing them off with nail varnish!

Best way to remove facial hair

What is the best way to remove facial hair? Tweezing? Hair removal creams? Are there any other options?

There certainly is another option and it is called The Epistick Epilator Facial Hair Removal Tool.

After reading the reviews on Amazon I decided to splash out the £1.00 and get my very own Epistick Epilator Facial Hair Removal Tool! While the tool is made in China, it does come with English instructions.

I came across this great little video on Youtube which reviews the facial hair remover and shows you exactly how to use it and how not to use it! Facial hair remover review.

To remove facial hair with this tool all you need to do is to hold each end and bend it into a U shape. This is the easy part! The next step takes some practice, you need to place the tool against your face and roll the handles. If you take a look at this facial hair remover then you can see that it works by catching the hairs between the spring coils and as you open the spring it catches the hairs and the next action of rolling pulls them out.

The first time I had a go with this tool, I ended up pulling out hair that I didn’t want to be removed! So if you are like me and have long shoulder length hair, then tie your hair up first and push back any hair that falls on your face otherwise you are going to find out the hard way just how effective this tool is.

At a mere £1.00 this handy little tool really is worth a go.  and I have to say that practice makes perfect. Have you mastered the technique of the Epistick Epilator Facial Hair Removal tool?

Quick update 15th September 2013 This little gadget does take some practice, but I feel that I have finally got the hang of it and I can certainly vouch for it’s ”OUCH!” factor. The YouTube video helped me a lot, but I would say that the best way to use the Epistick Epilator Facial Hair Removal Tool is to use it like you would a rolling pin to roll out pastry. Simply roll the tool along the areas where you want to remove your hair, twisting the handles as you go…If you don’t get the hang of it straightaway and I don’t think anyone does. Persevere. This is a very effective little gadget once you get the hang of it.

How to get longer eyelashes and thicker eyebrows

Thick eyebrows are back in fashion! This is no doubt good news for some of you out there, but if the rest of you are like me and have straggly eyebrows then its time to take action! After years of plucking my eyebrows at school, I never seem to have been able to get my eyebrows back in shape and they have been looking pretty patchy. To get my eyebrows looking a bit fuller and stronger and hopefully back into some sort of shape, I decided to give the Multi Award Winning, RapidLash® a try. While it is called Rapidlash®, the product can be used on eyebrows as well as eyelashes. It’s not a cheap product, although I brought mine at £26.99 on Amazon compared to the R.R.P (Recommended retail price) of £39.99. saying that, I just checked Boots online and they are selling Rapidlash® for £41.00. Amazon have the product for much less and I found a seller with a great price of £35.99 with free delivery as well as a free eyelash and brow comb. If you want to try this product for yourself, click here.

009

I was pretty sceptical that it would work and what also bothered me was the product description, because there is some conflicting information. Initially it is quoted that ”RapidLash®offers up to 50% longer looking and up to 75% more voluminous looking natural lashes in just 60 days.” While reading further down there is another quote ”RapidLash® is an innovative high-performance serum that conditions your lashes to look stronger, fuller and longer in as few as 8 weeks” Hmmnnn. Still skeptical I applied the serum once a day as directed and the container and its contents got me up to day 46. I decided from day 1 to apply the serum to both upper and lower eyelashes as well as my eyebrows.

Has there been any improvement?
Well, I believe there may have been a little improvement but its hard to tell. To be fair on RapidLash® I only used the product for 46 days and I wonder if I have been expecting too much or do I need to continue indefinably in order to see any big results? After researching the product a little more, RapidLash® admit that this is simply a cosmetic product and does not stimulate hair growth.

Overall, I don’t think that I will be spending any more money on another RapidLash®. I decided to make my eyelashes and eyebrows look fuller and longer myself which was a not only a much cheaper method, but I saw a noticeable improvement.

Here are my own tried and tested steps to creating longer and thicker looking eyelashes and eyebrows….

1- Apply Vaseline to your eyebrows and eyelashes every night before going to bed. After just a couple of days you will notice the difference.
2- Wait for a week until your eyebrows and eyelashes have been sufficiently conditioned by the Vaseline, and you can dye your eyebrows and eyelashes with Eylure Dybrow. Straightaway this will make a dramatic impact.
3- Always use eyelash curlers! They help to give a great impression of longer lashes.
4-To make even more of an impact and make your eyelashes look longer, create a false eyelash effect by applying some brush on eyelash fibres. Mine cost me £9.95 from Superdrug. You can check them out here. Eyelash fibres. To get the best result with eyelash fibres, you need to firstly apply a base coat of your usual mascara because this is what the fibres will adhere to. Next apply a second coat of mascara. Which mascara you use is personal preference, for me, I find that Max Factor  mascaras works best for me. They have excellent staying power and stay on without smearing.
5-To your eyebrows, also apply a small smear of Vaseline and hey presto! Wide awake eyes and a well-kept looking set of eyebrows.

If you don’t want to dye your eyebrows but want them to look thicker, then I suggest that you give the MUA Make Up Academy Fashionista Eyebrow Kit a go. At only £3.50 instead of the regular price of £7.00 it’s excellent value for money and well worth a try. The kit contains two brow powders, a pair of mini tweezers and some blend wax and highlighting powder to help define and frame your eyebrows. Why not have a look at the MUA eyebrowkit

31.10.2014  I just wanted to update this post and let everyone know about an affordable product which seems to have achieved some pretty outstanding results not only conditioning, but making eyelashes and eyebrows longer and thicker.

eyelash

Made by Delia cosmetics, their lash and brow growth conditioner  at only £4.99 with keratin will give you the results that you want within 15 days.  As well as keratin its other active Ingredients are WIDELASHTM which is an innovative complex of two active ingredients Biotinoyl Tripeptide – 1, that strengthens eyelash and eyebrow fiber and follicle and also pro-vitamin B2, that effectively rebuilds hair structure.

Top tip Some medications speed up eyelash growth. Minoxidil for example speeds up eyelash growth.  But you have to remember that when you stop using the product, your eyelashes will revert back to how they were before.  You can find out more about treating hair loss and Minoxidil right here

How to get the best results from your lip stain

For staying power, lip stains are the way to go. Most Lip stains look and are used just like a felt pen so they are easy to use. Simply run the tip of the pen across your lips, and hey presto, you have a smudge of colour which should last you for most of the day.

How to get the best results from your lip stain

1-Exfoliate your lips You can do this by mixing Vaseline with a little sugar or sea salt and then rubbing it on your lips. Alternatively apply a small amount of Vaseline to your lips and rub with a toothbrush. I suggest that you picking up a cheap toothbrush which you can use just for this purpose.

2-Moisturise Apply lip balm to your lips. My personal favourite is Blistex MedPlus which conditions your lips with a combination of Jojoba oil, cocoa butter and menthol. Allow the lip balm to absorb before going to step 3 or 4.

3-Lip liner If you intend to use a lip liner, then now is the time to apply it. If you prefer a more natural look then skip this.

4-Apply the lip stain I like quite a strong look and so apply a couple of layers. After this I apply another touch of Blistex MedPlus. A good quality lip balm will help to keep your lips mosturised and counteract the drying effect of the lip stain.

5-Lip gloss. I stop after stage 4 but if you like a shiny finish then you can apply a coat of lip gloss.

It is worth bearing in mind that the colour of the lip stain once applied, will not be the same as the colour of the product in its container.

I am currently using the MUA kiss proof lip stains and I have to say that unlike the other more expensive lip stains on the market, they don’t have a drying effect. For me this is a big bonus because previously I had tried and given up on lip stains simply because I didn’t like the fact that they made my lips dry. At £3.00 or £1.50 if you are in time for the half price sale, I advise you to give the MUA kiss proof lip stains a go. I have both the Kissalicious and Fruitilcious colours. Having tried only the Kissalicious, as with lip stains, the colour is not the pink that you would expect but instead a much darker pink colour which is also perfect as a base to my lipstick or lip-gloss. As an example to the staying power of the MUA lip-stains, I applied mine at 8.30 this morning and after a sandwich lunch at 12.30 it was still going strong. If you are new to MUA then why not check out their bestsellers and latest range of affordable make up products.
