For me, moving to a new city always starts off as an exciting adventure, but after a while you soon realise that you need to get out there and meet some of the locals! And this is where the hard work begins.
Meeting new people is never easy and it does take a certain amount of effort. Here are my personal tips for any newbie in town who wants to start socialising and to meet like-minded folk.
1-Because I am on the internet more than I am off, I started my search for local contacts online. First off I joined Tastebuds Which is a site that lets you meet new people through music. It’s not a dating site Phew! Instead you have the opportunity to share your music and listen to groups and different music genres as well as ask questions and message other members. It’s a fun friendly site and one that I recommend. Oh and did I mention that it is totally free! No membership or hidden fees.
2- I joined a Barclays Get Ready for Business seminar. This was a free 1 day event and as well as picking up some invaluable information for setting up my own business, it gave me the chance to meet some new people in the area.
3- A friend recommended that I join Meetup. Meetup.com is again a free site and it lets you find other people with the same interests as you. How is works is that you join the local community groups that interest you. Meetup helps you to meet people who you wouldn’t normally have the chance to meet.
Meetup Groups help people:
Get involved locally
Learn, teach, and share things
Make friends and have fun
Only 3 tips, but use them wisely and I am confident that you will make a lot of new friends and have fun along the way.
If you have any tips or suggestions that you would like to share please leave a comment. Thank you.
